Cars from the 1950s?
Written by 50s Cars Guide on April 9th, 2010
How much do cars from the 1950s go for? Or even the early 60s? They wouldn’t have to be in perfect shape but good enough to get around. Are they not good for a first car?

It is a treasure hunt to find the right car. Finding a nice stored car means that you will have to replace all the gaskets, brakes and anything else that will dry rot. You want to find a car that was at least driven to car shows. Long and short of it, if you can’t or don’t know what a carb is, don’t buy one. I work on cars all the time and the non-mechanic will drive themselves to bankruptcy taking the car to a mechanic trying to maintain an old car, just my 2 cents. I buy in-work projects all the time and finish them because the owner doesn’t know how to fix it, at a huge discount of the money they have in them.
Depends on their condition, make and model. Average restored cars can average around $10,000 to $20,000. Where as some can go $20,000+ with no limit (some up in the millions)
Cars with no restoration in moderate shape you could probably find for under $5,000.
Poor shape a few hundered, or even free sometimes.
If you have farms around your house and your confident, stop by and ask them if they have any old cars they’re willing to sell.
I had a 1956 ford crown victoria with a continentle kit and dual exhaust and fender skirts, I paid $1900 for it in 1959. Today that car is worth $35.000 dollars. The only problem is getting parts if something goes wrong with it, and also finding a mech. that knows how to fix them.
the sixties models i have been watching start out in the 30,000 range. they are not bad for a first car if you have patience to find replacement parts, and you can regulate your right foot. some of those parts get a little difficult to find some times. i am looking for a set of exhaust manifolds for a 68 gto and i just can not find them ant where, i might be going to headers pretty soon though.
